Fracture Management: Formable Splints

When managing a suspected fracture, proper support can make a significant difference in patient comfort and safety. With ambulance services increasingly advising first aiders to transport patients with limb fractures to hospital or urgent care by private car, knowing how to apply a formable splint effectively is a crucial skill.
In this session, you'll learn how to use rolled-up formable splints to stabilise fractures, reduce movement, and potentially ease pain while waiting for an ambulance or during transport. Hands-on practice will ensure you can confidently provide essential fracture support in real-world situations.

Neck Injury: Manual Immobilisation & Soft Cervical Collars

When a spinal injury is suspected, proper immobilisation is critical. In this hands-on session, you’ll learn the techniques currently used by ambulance services across Australia, focusing on both manual and soft collar immobilisation.
You'll practice how to manually stabilise the head and neck using your hands, as well as when and how to apply a soft cervical collar safely and effectively. This session will also cover how to assess when a collar is appropriate and how to measure for the correct fit.
By the end of the session, you'll have the confidence and skills to manage a suspected spinal injury with precision and care.
