    Dr David Hughes AM

    Chief Medical Officer – AIS

    Australian Institute of Sport

    Dr David Hughes AM is a Sport & Exercise Medicine Physician with 25+ years experience working in high performance sport. He is currently Chief Medical Officer of the AIS. He was Medical Director for the Australian Olympic Team for Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016, and team physician with the Australian Opals at London 2012. Experience includes Super Rugby, NRL and English Premier League football. David is a former President of the Australasian College of Sport & Exercise Physicians (ACSEP). Current work focus is on system-wide protocols to optimise athlete health & safety, and ethical/integrity challenges in high performance sport. David is the current Chair of the Australian Olympic Committee Medical Commission.

    Dr Finlay McNeil

    Australian Resuscitation Council

     

    Finlay Macneil is a retired surgeon with 30 years’ experience including 12 years in the Army.  He has extensive experience in the practice of first aid starting in 1973 in St John Ambulance.  He has performed a number of volunteer roles in St John including 6 years as the Chief Professional Officer of Australia and 5 years as the NSW State Medical Officer including the period of the Sydney Olympics. 

    He has been the College of Surgeons delegate on the Australian Resuscitation Council for 12 years including 2 years as the Deputy convenor of the First Aid Subcommittee ANZCOR and 4 years as the Convenor.  He currently serves on the ILCOR First Aid task force and has contributed to and been the lead author on CoSTRs from this task force. 

    He has an extensive knowledge of first aid in the real world, experience leading professional standards in first aid over more than 10 years and experience in academia from his time in Oxford and the University of Newcastle.
